Hi . As this is my first blog and as our websites are going to be telling you about activities and classes around Ireland, I am going to tell you about an area we visited on a family weekend break recently called Killaloe, it is on the Tipperary /Clare border and about 18 miles from Limerick City.
Killaloe is the busiest fishing and boating centre in the midwest region. It has a lovely riverside setting and a long arched bridge separates the towns of Killaloe on the Clare side and Ballina on the Tipperary side. Killaloe is full of nice narrow streets with old shops and houses and a new marina which caters for all kinds of leisure craft that make Killaloe one of the best centres for water activities. Watersports in particular are very popular here, you can hire boats of all kinds from rowing to cabin cruisers for as long as you wish.
During our stay there our kids who are aged five, nine and twelve had a ball there. It is a great place for a weekend family break. The shannonside activity centre at Mountshannon offers sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, pony-trekking. hill-walking and biking facilities. At night there is a lot of nice restaurants and bars, and depending on what kind of night life you want, you will find it here.
Well worth a visit.
